Patient Financial Services
PacMed’s mission is Simply the Right Care. A crucial part of fulfilling this mission is our financial assistance (charity care) program. This program offers free or discounted services for those who cannot afford care, are underinsured or have no insurance at all.
This program provides financial assistance in cases where annual family income is between zero and 400% of the federal poverty level, and ensures that financial constraints are not a barrier to receiving medically necessary care.

Self-pay discount
If you do not have insurance and choose to self-pay at the time of service, you will be offered a discount. If you have questions on whether or not your services qualify for discount, please contact Pacific Medical Center’s Patient Accounts Department at 206.621.4392.
Providers at PacMed that do not follow the hospital’s financial assistance policy may have their own financial assistance policies, so please contact the provider directly if you have any questions regarding their policies.
CASHLESS PAYMENTS
Effective May 1, 2020, Pacific Medical Centers has adopted a “cashless” payment system for clinical services and will no longer accept cash or check payments at clinical service locations.
Credit/debit cards will continue to be accepted and serve as the primary payment method for clinical services. Visit www.PacMed/billpay for information on ways to pay your bill.
Note: retail pharmacy locations will continue to process cash transactions.
UNDERSTANDING INSURANCE
Even if PacMed works with your insurance company, we may not be contracted with your specific insurance plan. It is important to check with your insurance company before your visit to ensure that you are aware of your financial responsibility for the services you are receiving.
If you change or add an insurance policy, please let us know so that we may properly bill your insurance carrier.
Copay: We have a contractual obligation (with your insurance company) to collect your copay at the time of service. Please remember to bring your copay to your appointment.
Visit our insurance page for more helpful insurance information or call 206.621.4049 with your questions.
Tips for getting the most from your medical insurance
To maximize your medical benefits, please contact your insurance company’s Customer Service department to verify your policy’s benefits prior to your medical visit. The phone number should be on your insurance ID card.
Before calling your insurance company, prepare some questions. Some suggestions are:
- Do I have an assigned primary care provider with my plan?
- Do I have a deductible, coinsurance or copayment for [the health service you need]?
- If PacMed does not contract with your plan: Do I have out-of-network benefits?
